today I was helping out with some kids at my church and something really just stuck with me all day, especially when this topic came up more then once with one of the younger girls.
Technology (and how sucked in we are to it)
This girl (who was, I think, 10 or 11) asked us a handful of times whether we had phones or iPods that she could play with. Then she was saying how for a whole THREE days she didn't have Netflix. Now, don't get me wrong I complain about this stuff too. That's what bugged me so much. Through her eyes, she sees us older kids always on some type of technology and she thinks she needs that too.
These kids look up to us... We are their example. What kind of an example are we being to them so much so that they have become tech crazed? Are we really that dependent on technology? What happened to playing outside, playing with dolls (or cars), or, heck, imagination!?
Technology does make life simpler, I know this all to well, but has it gone so far that we can't go with out it for one measly day??
I challenge you (and myself) to be a better example for these kids (That are ALWAYS watching us). They just want us to love them and spend time with them... I think we can take a break from technology for long enough to play outside or play a board game and just invest time in these kids.
They are the next generation... How do you want them to exemplify your work?
Just a thought,
Lindsay

I hear ya girl! I was amazed to see/hear how much technology has way more of an influence on kids than it did when we were little
